I thought I was prepared. I was wrong.

Hey there Reader!

This latest Going Deeper conversation with Jen Liddy was an absolute blast to record (we decided to drop all of the professional pretense, and just talk like real friends and women going through life in today's world) and I've been getting great feedback already from those of you that it's resonating with.

Apparently, Jen's not the only one who wasn't prepared for the EMPTY NEST and all of the connotations that it brought with it...

“I really thought I could think my way through this, or learn my way through this, or know my way through this. And it turns out you’ve got to friggin’ FEEL your way through it.”
- Jen Liddy

The new Going Deeper episode, I Thought I Was Prepared: I Was Wrong with Jen Liddy is now available!

MY TOP TAKEAWAYS FROM THIS EPISODE:

1. You can think and plan your way right up to the edge of something — but you can't think your way through it. Jen did everything right to prepare for the her life transitions - saw it coming very clearly - and it still blindsided her. Some of life's biggest transitions only truly land when you stop trying to manage them, and start letting yourself feel and experience them instead.

2. The doing was never the thing. I'm sure Jen isn't the only one who measured her life's worth in her output! It took a mindful minute on a dog walk to realize that the doing wasn't making her better (or happier, or bringing her joy). It was just keeping her busy enough not to notice...

3. Ease isn't a reward you have to earn. The guilt around ease, around choosing the softer, simpler path, around finally having a slow morning (or entire day!) — and the origin story of where that inherent guilt came from. And what it means to learn the difference between feeling compelled to earn something - and just refusing to let it be easy!
